Compose v2 vs v5

You will learn: to tell old Compose advice from current advice.

Checked with Docker Engine 29 on 31 Oct 2026

The problem

The old command with a dash is not found. The new one with a space works, with a yellow warning about the version line. Docker transcript: $ docker-compose up -d docker-compose: command not found $ docker compose up -d WARN[0000] /home/you/kedai-kancil/compose.yaml: the attribute `version` is obsolete, it will be ignored, please remove it to avoid potential confusion [+] up 3/3 ✔ Network kedai-kancil_default Created 0.1s ✔ Container kedai-kancil-web-1 Started 0.3s ✔ Container kedai-kancil-api-1 Started 0.3s

Go deeper (optional)

The Go SDK lets Go programs load, check and run Compose projects. No command line needed. It is for tool builders, not daily work. Your files follow the Compose Specification, which has no version number. Real rep (optional): run docker compose version on your machine.
