You will learn: where plans, chats, long guides and code snippets belong on GitHub.

The problem

Issues are piling up: to-dos, but also questions, polls and long guides. Ravi asks: “What should we build next?” Where should he post it?

A project (Projects): A planning board or table for issues and pull requests, with columns like To do and Done. is a planning board for issues and PRs. Cards move from To do to Done. Put each card in its column.

        Discussions: A forum inside a repo for questions, ideas and polls that are not to-dos. is a forum inside the repo. It holds questions, ideas, news and polls. In a Q&A, the asker can mark the best reply as the answer. Put a Q&A in order.

        Predict

        A wiki: Pages of long guides that live next to a repo, separate from the code. holds long guides on many pages, next to the code. Your wiki explains how to set up the club laptops. Who can edit it, at first?

        Check

        A gist: A tiny repo for sharing a snippet or a few files. Secret gists are not private. is a tiny repo for sharing a snippet. Secret gists hide from search. But anyone with the link can see them. Safe in a secret gist?

              Projects can also be a table or a roadmap with dates. Add your own fields, like priority. A project belongs to you or to an organization. You can turn an issue into a discussion. Every gist is a Git repo, so people can fork and clone it. A secret gist can turn public later, not back.
