World K1: The Food Court

What you already know

You will learn: what Kubernetes is for, and which K1 lessons you can skip.

Checked with Kubernetes 1.37 on 31 Oct 2026

The problem

Welcome to the food court! Your shop app runs in one lunchbox. Then 500 hungry people arrive at noon. What do you need?

Pick one answer.

Watch

You are here: cluster kind-dev namespace default
kubectl get pods lists three shop trays, all Running. The picture shows them on two stalls. Terminal output: $ kubectl get pods NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGE shop-747bf9cf8-d6b6z 1/1 Running 0 22s shop-747bf9cf8-gnjxm 1/1 Running 0 22s shop-747bf9cf8-zbn9j 1/1 Running 0 22s

Kubernetes runs a whole food court, called a cluster: The whole food court: a group of machines that Kubernetes runs as one.. Stalls are machines. Trays carry your containers. kubectl get pods lists your trays.

Try it

You know the kitchen already. Where did you meet each word?

Drag a card into a box. Or tap the card, then tap the box.

      Predict

A tray falls on the floor at noon. The manager sees it. What happens next?

      Pick one answer.

      Try it

Now the quick test. Each right answer ticks a lesson you can skip. Not sure? Tap “I don’t know yet”. There is no timer.

Answer what you can. Skip what you don't know. No pressure.

      Question 1 of 12

You run 200 containers on 10 machines. One machine dies at night. What helps most?

      Check

Last round. Good habit, or needs work? Swipe each one.

Swipe right for good, left for needs work. Or use the buttons.

Practise on a throwaway cluster on your laptop

      You did it!

You can now say what Kubernetes does, and skip what you know.

      Go deeper (optional)

Missed a few? No problem. Every lesson stays open, ticked or not. Kubernetes runs containers, so the Docker part helps too.

Real rep (optional): meet a real cluster in your browser.

      Real mission

      1. kubectl get nodes
      2. kubectl get pods -A

0 of 3 steps done · Your ticks are saved.
